Oh, how sad! I was to cuddle the creepy undead "my goldfish died - yay self-mutilation" guy!

Amazing how you two have made me give a shit about an ACTION FIGURE. I shall speak to you henceforth with reverance. And maybe a little worship.

Just a little.

Why, thank you! We love that people get something out of action figures, because we're big fans of them. Just yesterday I was holding an unopened Nazi Kroenen, thinking about replacing the one you see (the packaged one has a better paint job and the joints likely aren't as old, but I couldn't bear to change the "original cast". So I'm way worse...alas.

:)

Thanks for the comment!

That was awesome. It's really interesting to get Kroenen's perspective for once, and I thought the whole over-articulate manner of speach suited him really well.

I dearly, dearly love the line "Zere were approximately seventy-vone vays in vhich it could fail."

What exactly is a demonic herb garden? Are they planning to grow a crop of mini Botanicuses? Botanici...whatever.

Hee, you said Plant Man. The comics are burning as I type, and will be on their way soon.

Take care.

I sent you the ACTUAL address, right? After my idiocy led me to give you the jumbled version?

A demonic herb garden is the word "demonic" stuck on to an obsession with herb gardens in my creative works. I sketched and doodles comics some years ago, sci-fi themed, and the main villain had been driven to madness and evil because the herb garden windowbox had been knocked off his spaceship. So I like to put herb gardens into things... *is cool*

Loverly! And thanks again!

Um... Whoa.

Normally, I read this stuff and I enjoy it just for the goofiness and Abe's strange thought process- very lighthearted, very fitting to the little plastic men parading about 'on stage' as it is.
This is very impressive. You've had a long time to make Kroenen more than just an obnoxious bladed peon with this series, but this is really the first time that I've looked at him and gone "That is so true." You've made this character too smart and too emotional available (at least to fischboys) to just sit there and stick with Rasputin, just because he's always done son in the past.
The writing in these things is always good, but normally the humor of the images takes precidence over the writing- both silly, they fit together so you don't really know for sure what you're laughing at. But when you get to the serious stuff, it's actually holding together really, really well. Kroenen's reflections really fit the actions in panel, and both serve to enhance each other.

And the fact that he's suddenly forced to consider a plant man who's let Sammael *poke* him silly over the last four panels, kind of makes my day.

(You can tell I'm gearing up for a midterm, I can't look at anything without analyzing the hell out of it) Anyhoo, as usual, great job. Gold star!

Right now I'm having a brief freak-out because it says "weeks" and not "veeks" but let's see if I can't get my mind off of that and focus on other things...

Rebecca referred to this as Kroenen's Emmy-winning episode and I'm glad you enjoyed it! It was my baby much in the way that Episode 40 was Rebecca's. Kroenen's emotions have always been a little bit undecided because we never had to worry about them at all. This episode was originally supposed to be just another Rasputin episode but when we did the second-to-last picture, I jokingly said to Rebecca "Und I sink zat vas ze moment zat ve ceased to be boys und began to be men" and she thought it was funny so we talked a bit and then decided to have him narrate. I was hesitant not only because I generally write for Kroenen, but also because I wasn't sure if getting Kroenen's mind out in narration was wise. I wasn't sure if I could make him Kroenen and ALSO reflective but...uh... Hey, I'm glad it worked for you.

Because it's a silly episode, but I also sort of like the tone of it. Especially for a comic as moronic as this one usually is.

So thanks for the star!

This is amazing. Although I thoroughly enjoy the rampant exposure of plastic-action fornication and vivid slapstick humor, the inner thoughts and narration of Kroenen gave the piece a beautifully serious aspect that wonderfully counterbalanced the "sillyness." It is very powerful and brings an air of depth to the character while staying very much in character. Bravo. *snaps fingers*

*ahem*

Please forgive the bombastic language. I just got back from my sociology/psychology classes, and I'm about to visit my American Poetry prof concerning the ambitious nature of papers...my brain is temporarily warped by their influences...

But on another note entirely! Your comic has inspired my pencil, which calls for my "black" sketchbook. Hopefully, if time permits, I will have Abe/Kroenen fanart of slashy-goodness. If you would not mind, I would like to post the drawings on my personal website with a link to the comic. Although my website is not overly mainstream, I would love to contribute to following of Abe/Kroenen as my abilities allow. Afterall, if one drops the fluff and gets to the basics, this comic is damn good!

Well, thank you! :) I'm happy it worked for you. I rather liked it, too, because it's always fun to do something different. Kroenen, I think, has been keeping a lot of stuff in for 47 episodes and I was wary of having his voice narrate in the past because I was concerned it might erode his rather terrifying exterior. However, this being episode 48, we thought people had had enough time to get to know him and finally to accept his "emotions".

Tee. And don't worry, I'm writing a lot of essays and doing a lot of projects as we speak so I can sympathize. :-D

Both Rebecca and I (Beckara and Bagelofdeath on LJ if you'd like to see) love to draw and we love to look at other artists' stuff and we LOVE LOVE LOVE providing some inspiration. So yes! We'd love to see your work and you can definitely display it wherever you'd like. We'll link to it in a future newspost and maybe that'll even get you a little more traffic.

'til then, have a loverly day!

The true joy of this episode is in reading this vast internal monologue aloud. Coming from a family where my own grandparents never lost their heavy German accents, I am happy to say you did qvuite vell.
I will, however, blame you completely for the thoughts that struck me during this incredibly moving piece. And that was, "I need to watch the Pianist again," because Karl reminded me not of the vicious, blood-thirsty Nazis, but rather of the sad and longing Jewish Pianist who yearns for his instrument to give meaning to his life. That was a comparison that I don't think anyone ever intended.
It's too bad this episode came out not a week after the Oscars, as I would totally ave voted for Kronen as Best Supporting Actor for this speech alone. And that's saying something, because Jake was very deserving of the award himself. I did want to ask, how tall are these figures? I have plots.
Meanwhile, this has given me yet more ideas for zany fanart that I don't have time to make because I'm smack dab in the middle of my senior thesis. For this I also blame you, not only because I'm stuck with ideas I can't use, but because no one else can possibly understand why I giggle like mad at the sight of the Breakfast at Tiffany's poster on my wall.

This episode has made people comment with so much to say--I adore it.

1) I only have one German accent to follow in my family...though I suppose I would naturally have more that I just haven't met. I suspect they would be ashamed of my WWII B-movie stereotyping. But it's so fun and it's sometimes close to being something near to accurate.

2) Oh no. No! Whatever you do, do NOT watch The Pianist again. People can only survive the emotional turmoil of that movie so many times before they drown in their own misery. Instead, watch one of the 4 or 5 other movies where Thomas Kretschmann plays a Nazi.

3) The figures are about 8'' tall. Which means that, really, Abe is 8'', Kroenen is a hair taller (though you usually can't tell) and Sammael is HUGE and surprisingly heavy for an action figure.

4) Oh, alas, I understand how you feel. I have so many personal creative projects I am DYING to work on but school is taking precedence over all of it and by the time I'm finished schoolwork, my desire has usually been replaced by lethargy.

Alas...

And thanks for commenting!

Wow. I like Kroenen's voice here; translating that much accent hurt my head a bit, but the narrative style was lovely, and the setting (in the fireplace, awesomeness!) really brought that out. =)

Well, the thing with the narrative was that, as I wrote it, I couldn't help but think "He speaks in an accent....but why would he THINK in one?". Then I was reminded that this is an action figure comic about Hellboy characters and suddenly became okay with it. *laughs* Sort of.

Glad you liked it!

Wow! Now that's high praise!

The movies were a little bit odd to Kroenen, because they took away his ability to speak AND his diploma (he was a doctor in the comics) and made him...well, really, they made him very cool but still very different.

And Abe was underwater Niles in the movie. He just was.

Kroenen really is in love with Abe - he's beginning to adopt Abe's characteristic inner-monologue. Oh, how sweet and romantic. How many of us have wished, at some point in our lives, we could see that side of our lover - know just exactly what is going on in his head? All along I've been reading the comic, I think Kroenen is just as much in love with Abe as Abe is in love with him, but I don't really know it. Kroenen's nature forbids that sort of demonstrativeness. Now you have let us all see what Kroenen really thinks and I know that he really, truly does love Abe. My heart has melted. I want to see into my own lovers' heads like that.

Aww, glad you liked it so much.

Yeah, that was what I liked doing: making Kroenen actually say concretely that he DOES love Abe and that he isn't just the strong, silent, insane type. I mean, I'm not saying I doubt his intelligence in previous episodes, but that I think it helps the character to have something to say to no one in particular. I also like how wordy he is. :)

so thanks!
